Contraline is a biotech and medical device company in Charlottesville, VA developing a novel male contraceptive. We are seeking a Research Scientist to become an integral part of our team – someone with high-energy and adaptability to take on any laboratory tasks and scientific challenges that come our way. General responsibilities include performing in vitro biocompatibility studies via cell culturing, polymer hydrogel characterization, histological slide staining, and assisting with animal procedures.
Full-time (salary and equity dependent on experience)
Contribute to and support all laboratory science, including, but not limited to:
Maintain cell culture lines and perform in vitro cytotoxicity experiments
Assist with polymer chemistry and characterize mechanical and chemical properties polymer hydrogels
Assist with animal procedures (including in-life care) to determine safety and efficacy of the medical devices
Histopathology and cytology preparation, data collection, and analysis
Develop protocols on new techniques and translate protocols in-use to SOPs
Assist with laboratory planning, technology development, and staff training
Prepare data and reports for laboratory meetings, publications, patents, and submissions to the FDA
B.S. or B.A. in biology or life sciences related field.
Minimum of 3 years performing laboratory research.
Experience working with rodents is preferred, but not required.
General interest in reproductive health and science.
Well-organized and detail-oriented.
Independent and self-motivated.
Team-driven and transparent.
This position may require occasional weekend availability.
